The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the state. The Attorney General's Office has general charge, supervision and direction of the legal business of the State, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials and institutions of state government.
In all matters in which interests of the state of Maryland are involved, the Attorney General and assistant attorneys general represent the state. This includes litigation in the Court of Appeals, the Court of Special Appeals, the Circuit Courts and the District Court of Maryland, as well as the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals and the United States District Court. Administrative rules and regulations promulgated by most state officers or agencies must be submitted to the Attorney General for review before they may become effective. The Office of the Attorney General also enforces the state's antitrust, consumer protection and securities laws, and conducts criminal prosecutions and appeals.
Clerks of court, registers of wills, sheriffs and state's attorneys of the counties and Baltimore City are represented by the Attorney General's Office. Yet, the Office does not represent boards or officials of the counties or Baltimore City that employ their own counsel, such as boards of education or boards of elections (except in Baltimore City).
Calvert Hospice has provided quality end-of-life care and support as the only non-profit, independently owned and community-based hospice. Calvert Hospice is licensed to provide hospice care by the Maryland Office of Healthcare Quality and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In addition, Calvert Hospice maintains voluntary accreditation by the Community Health Accreditation Partner (CHAP), which demonstrates their commitment to achieving the highest level of performance in the delivery of hospice care.
The Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) provides a coordinated service delivery system designed to empower individuals with developmental disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. The DDA collaborates with children and adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them make informed choices about their lives and the support they receive. The Southern Maryland Regional Office oversees services and support for residents of Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George's and St. Mary's counties.
The DDA helps individuals access the right services to become active members of their communities. These services can be obtained through Home and Community-Based Medicaid Waiver programs or state funds provided by the DDA. Those receiving assistance also benefit from support from their families, community groups and various programs.
The DDA is the main Maryland state agency that pays for services in communities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Much more than a “thrift store,” Shoppe for Hospice is the place to shop for gently used and new women’s and men’s clothing, shoes, and accessories in a store that feels like your favorite boutique. The inventory at Shoppe for Hospice is inspected for wear, then steamed or ironed. Volunteers are ready to help you find unique items!
All proceeds of the Shoppe for Hospice benefit the Burnett Calvert Hospice House.
Donations of ladies’ and men’s clothing, shoes, hats, jewelry and other accessories in gently worn or new condition are accepted on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Undergarments, swimwear, sleepwear, gym clothing or housewares of any kind are not accepted.
