- The Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum is located in the original Chesapeake Beach Railway train station and features artifacts exploring the history of the former railway and Chesapeake Beach as a resort destination in the early 20th century. Events include children’s programs and summer concerts.
- Kings Landing Park, a 260-acre jewel on the Patuxent River, has a fishing pier, hiking trails, an equestrian facility and canoe and kayak access to the river.
- North Beach is a charming waterfront town with great dining, shopping, special events, the famous Friday night farmers market, a bay beach, boardwalk, Bayside History Museum, Wetlands Overlook Park and Sunrise Garden.
- The visitors center at Chesapeake Biological Laboratory offers exhibits highlighting the health of the Chesapeake Bay. Free tours of this University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science campus are offered seasonally at 2 p.m. on Fridays.
- Peruse farmers markets for local produce.
- The Port Republic One-Room Schoolhouse #7, built around 1868, is available for tours by appointment.
- Tour the 100-acre Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Sanctuary and see ancient bald cypress trees, enjoy bird watching
and take nature walks. Come inside to see the amazing albino snapping turtle and other animals. - Tour historic churches including All Saints Church and Christ Church, two of the original 30 Anglican parishes in Maryland.
- Explore the work of artisans at Annmarie Sculpture Garden’s Maker’s Market the first Saturday of most months.
- On the Calvert Marine Museum First Free Fridays the museum is open to the public 5-8 p.m.
- Explore Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum along the Patuxent River with 66 archaeological sites, self-guided trails and a visitor center with museum exhibits, a children’s discovery room and a museum shop. While there, tour the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory featuring artifacts of Maryland’s heritage.
- The Spaceflight America Museum and Science Center covers the history of manned spaceflight and features
historical artifacts from the Mercury program to the International Space Station. - Hike 20 miles of trails at American Chestnut Land Trust Parker’s Creek Preserve, the most pristine watershed on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.
- Wander through antiques shops and unique boutiques.
- Experience the outdoors at our many parks and recreation areas.
- Trace your local history at the Calvert County Historical Society and tour its home, the historic Linden. Attend the society’s “Brown Bag Lunch Speaker Series” held on the third Thursday of the month, January through October.

- Visit a piece of history at the Old Wallville School, built in the 1880s for African American students.
- The four Calvert Library locations (Solomons, Prince Frederick, Owings and Chesapeake Beach) offer free special events, performances and classes for all ages throughout the year.
- Hop into the county’s burgeoning breweries for samples and demonstrations of the craft.
- Every aspect of the region’s charms is on display at the county’s wineries. Sample superb wines in a restored tobacco barn, on the slopes of a rolling vineyard or along the banks of a pristine creek.
- Visit the Bruce “Snake” Gabrielson’s Surf Museum and Surf Art Gallery for unique surfing exhibits and artifacts that other surf museums can only envy.
